В норме среднее значение оптической плотности макулярного пигмента (ОПМП) может значительно варьировать, поскольку зависит от образа жизни человека, общего количества пигмента в организме, питания, пола, возраста, а также таких сопутствующих заболеваний, как сахарный диабет, ожирение, гипертоническая болезнь. Выявлены различия в уровне ОПМП у населения разных стран, показано снижение его уровня при патологии сетчатки, катаракте, глаукоме, близорукости, макулодистрофиях, диабетическом макулярном отеке. Уровень макулярного пигмента может быть использован в качестве диагностического критерия при многих офтальмопатологиях, поэтому необходимо дальнейшее изучение этого показателя.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The density of macular pigment in the central retina is the total concentration of lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin. Normally, the average value of the optical density of macular pigment can vary significantly as it depends on the person's lifestyle, the total amount of pigment in the body, nutrition, gender, age, as well as concomitant diseases such as diabetes, obesity, arterial hypertension. Differences in the level of optical density of macular pigment between different countries were revealed and it was showed that this parameter drops in cases of retinal pathology, cataract, glaucoma, myopia, macular degeneration, or diabetic macular edema.
