Sergei E. Avetisov - Dr. Med. Sci., Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Scientific Chief of RAS State Research Institute of Eye Diseases; Head of Chair of Ophthalmology, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Moscow, Russia, Editor-in-Chief of Vestnik oftal’mologii. In 1973, he graduated, with distinction, from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. Ph. D: 1981. Dr. of Med. Sci. thesis: “Clinical and experimental study of possibilities of surgical correction of astigmatism”, 1985.
Main fields of research: eye microsurgery, traditional and surgical methods of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism correction, early surgical correction of congenital cataracts, ultrasound computer examination of ocular and orbital diseases. Prof. Avetisov is the author of over 500 publications, 50 patents, and 4 books, and a coauthor of National Guidelines in Ophthalmology. His cycle of works on spatial ultrasound computer examination in the diagnostics of ocular and orbital diseases was awarded with an Academician M.I.Averbach prize for the best work in eye diseases.
