Alevtina F. Brovkina

Alevtina F. Brovkina - Dr. Med. Sci., Professor, Academician of RAS, Chair of Ophthalmology, Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Moscow, Russia.

In 1954 she graduated, with distinction, from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. In 1970 – 2004, she worked in Moscow Helmholtz Research Institute of Eye Diseases, first as a researcher and, from 1980, as the head of ophthalmic oncology department. She is the author of more than 450 publications and 18 books. Main fields of research: ophthalmic oncology and orbital pathology. Under Prof. Brovkina’s guidance and with her direct participation, original eye-preserving methods of surgical treatment and radiation therapy of eye and orbit tumors using microsurgical technologies were developed and implemented. She took an active part in the development of modern immunotechnology techniques and in the creation of Russia’s first ophthalmic applicators for local irradiation of eye tumors and the adnexa, and developed a method for irradiation with a narrow proton beam.
