Studied medicine at 1st Moscow Medical Institute. Graduated in 1975.
Ph.D. in ophthalmology from Moscow Helmholtz Research Institute for Eye Diseases “New sclera reinforcement surgery and its results in high myopia” (1981). Doctoral thesis: Sclera reinforcement treatment and prevention of complications of progressive myopia in children and adolescents (Moscow Helmholtz Research Institute of Eye Diseases, 1993).
