New diagnostic opportunities for uveitis

Abstract

Purpose — to substantiate the diagnostic value of general blood test indicators in the diagnosis of the etiology of uveitis. Material and methods. A total of 88 inpatients diagnosed with uveitis were prospectively examined. Patients were divided into three age- and gender-matched groups based on etiology. Group 1 (n = 28) included patients with unclear etiology. Group 2 (n = 28) included patients with viral etiology. Group 3 (n = 32) included patients with an established diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis. Results. According to our study, lymphocytes play the most important role in providing information. A significant difference in the parameters between groups 1 and 2 was found for neutrophils (p = 0.0000) and platelets (p = 0.0242). When comparing groups 1 and 3, the parameters of leukocytes (p = 0.0020), neutrophils (p = 0.0000), and the size of erythrocytes, fl (p = 0.0446) were noted. The following integral indices showed significant diagnostic value in the etiology of uveitis: leukocyte shift, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, adapted systemic inflammatory response, and a marker of viral infections. When studying the integral indices, the expected and statistically significant differences between the groups were recorded. Conclusion. When prescribing etiopathogenetic treatment for a uveal patient, an ophthalmologist should focus not only on the results of a clinical blood test, but also on the integral indices of peripheral blood.
