Abstract
Literature data have shown the shortcomings of current domestic and foreign registers of glaucoma patients: none of them provides adequate monitoring and prognostication of the disease. The study presents the main tasks,  principles and methodological foundations of building a regional glaucoma register — an automated system for collecting, storing and processing information on glaucoma patients living in the Tyumen region. Requirements for organizational, informational, software and technical support of the register are given. The stages of register  development are described in detail, including the issues identified during the use of the database and the ways to  solve them. The work highlights the steps already taken to develop and implement a regional glaucoma register and discusses the prospects for further development of this area in health care management, aimed at improving the quality of medical care. The data will help clinicians in the development of similar databases in other regions of Russia, as they highlight the difficulties that may occur. The possibilities of solving other topical research issues, in  particular the efficacy and safety of pharmacotherapy of disease progression, are discussed. The regional glaucoma register can serve as a tool for providing high-quality diagnostics, treatment and observation of patients with glaucoma and a possible model of the future National Register across Russia.
